School community celebrates World Book Day

Students and staff at St Michael Abbey School embraced the magic of storytelling today as the school celebrated World Book Day.

The school community arrived in style this morning, with students and staff dressed as their favourite book characters. The campus was filled with everything from classic literary heroes to colourful contemporary characters.

A highlight of the day was the school‑wide DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) which encouraged students and staff to immerse themselves into reading. The whole school paused for a dedicated reading session with classrooms, common areas and some outdoor spaces transformed into quiet reading zones. Students and staff had the chance to switch off from daily routines and enjoy uninterrupted reading.

The school will continue its focus on reading throughout the term with a readathon initiative designed to foster confidence, enjoyment and academic excellence through literacy. Students have set personal reading goals; exploring new genres, discovering new authors and sharing recommendations with one another.
