St Michael Abbey School and the 80th Anniversary of VE Day

St Michael’s College lost 12 former students in World War II and their names, along with those lost in WWI and the Gulf War, are displayed in St Michael’s Church as a permanent memorial to honour their memory. Their legacy is very much part of the heritage of St Michael’s College linking to the newly founded St Michael Abbey School.

The values and freedoms that were being fought for worldwide 80 years ago are the values and freedoms that are an intrinsic part of a British School in a World Community.

The end of World War II, unfortunately, wasn’t an end to wars and the history of the world over the last 80 years shows that we cannot take for granted our freedoms that generations fought for to preserve and to make our world a better one.

We honour the proud memory of those being remembered and honoured on the 80th Anniversary of VE Day. Making sure we continue to do our part in our communities – local, national and international – to ensure the world is a better place for our students to be the next generation of leaders. They will continue to carry forward the memory and legacy of those who came before them.
